West Kent Sunday League News Report – 28th November 2021

There were some important results on a very cold and windy day around the League on Sunday.

Division One / Two

The first phase of the top tier is starting to become a three horse race. The top three all won and defeat for Paddock Wood puts them clear. Pembury Sunday crushed AFC Tonbridge 10- 0 with two hat-tricks to record, by Steve Harper and Ryan Waterman. Rob Gray scored two, Lewis Salter and Tom Price made it ten. In goal, Toby Forward kept his fourth clean sheet of the season and leads that particular table.

Artois United are only a point behind with a game in hand after beating Odukwe 6-2.  Ben Holder 2, Nathan Moseley, Lucas Murrain, Ryan Hine and Conner Morrow were their scorers. It was 2-2 at half time, then Artois stepped up a gear for the second period. I do not have Odukwe's scorers.

Two goals from Luke Leppard paved the way for Simla´s five - nil beating of Charcott.  Joe Fuller, Ian Parsons with his ninth of the season and Harry Hudson also scored. Joe Cullipp in goal kept his third clean sheet of the season.

AFC Valour made it three wins in their last three games, showing a good recovery from losing the previous four.  Callum Hoare, Johnny Connors, Steve Ednie and Matt Jagelman scored in their 4-1 win at home against Paddock Wood, for whom Anton Neil replied. Paddock Wood seem to have gone off the boil,. having lost their last three games.

Goudhurst United collected their third league win of the season at Dormansland Rockets.  They had lost their previous four games and might not have expected such a good return for the long trip. But a hat-trick from James Found plus single strikes from Michael Peever, Will Mantle and Toby Gray did the job by putting them ahead six nil ahead at half time. After being short of defenders last Sunday, Rockets were short of forwards this week, though being six  down at half time doesn't necessarily support the former.

The half time talk was along the lines of,  well you've probably lost the game, so let's show a bit of pride in the second half, That they did  with goals from Ollie Muggeridge  and Tom Poulter made the scoreline marginally more respectable. Final score Rockets 2 - 6 Goudhurst United.

AFC Borough are another team on the up. Having endured a painful run of five successive big defeats, they won for the second time in two weeks, beating TW Ridgewaye 7-0. Ridgewaye were short of bodies and had to call off their reserve team match to make up the numbers. George Holman scored five of Borough's goals. Ed Handford and Sam Edmunds added the others.

Finally, Insulators are now four games since their last win after a 5-1 home defeat by Green Lane. Insulators started the game well, creating a couple of good chances before Green Lane took the lead. A dfensive error resulted in a second and with another goal the visitors were three-nil up by half time.  They added a fourth after the break before Ben Boodle pulled one back. That was no more than a consolation as Bal Maher then scored his fourth of the game to make it 5-1.  Jordan Samuels was the other Green Lane scorer.

There might be some interesting results next Sunday. The top six are all playing teams from the lower half of the table. Who's going to spring a surprise?

Division Three

Brenchley were left without a game after TW Ridgewaye Reserves had to pull out of their scheduled game citing lack of available players. The League's Management Committee will be discussing that game, among others, at its meeting tonight (Monday).

Any award of points will be published once clubs involved have been notified direct.

Meanwhile, Royal Oak seem to have recovered from that blip a fortnight ago against Sedlescombe Rangers. They had a six-nil home win against Speldhurst Rangers, whose up and down season continues.  The tone of the morning was set when Sean lost the key for the changing room.. Rangers didn't have the chance to warm up (shooting into the goal) and it was too cold for their tika taka football. They were on top for most of the game, apart from the six times Royal Oak scored. Ollie Crees continued his charge up the goalscorer charts by scoring none.  Crees is Ranger's second best scorer so far with four goals to his tally.

Sedlescombe Rangers and AFC Borough Reserves were left idle when the Rec was declared unfit.

Westerham are gradually creeping back into form with two wins and a draw in their past three games. Success on Sunday came at Tonbridge United with a  3-1 win, the goals from Brodie Kitterly and a brace from Michael Coldicott. A penalty scored by Matt Finch was United's reply.

The biggest win of the day as by Artois United Reserves, beating bottom side Riverside Colts 11-0. Ollie Sugden scored five, his second hat.trick of the season.  There were two each for Adam Hardy and Steve Johnson, one for Finley Crowhurst and Dan Edmonton.

The big game next Sunday is Sedlescombe Rangers v Brenchley. Rangers need a win to keep in contention. Royal Oak will go the short distance down the road to meet TW Ridgewaye Reserves.
