West Kent Sunday League News Report –
Sunday 24th April 2022
Artois United are Division One winners and League Champions after a
campaign that went to the final decisive day..
WKSFL Senior Cup
The second pair of quarter-finals saw Dormansland Rockets
overcome a depleted Odukwe outfit 5-0, while in the other game
Pembury Sunday unexpectedly went down 2- 1 to Paddock Wood, who
had previously suffered five consecutive defeats. The semi-finals
next Sunday will be Dormansland Rockets v Artois United and
Paddock Wood v Charcott.
WKSFL Intermediate Cup
A brace from Bradley Pritchard secured a cup final place for
Sedlescombe Rangers in their semi final tie with Insulators. In the
final, they will meet the winners of next week's semi final between
Dormansland Rockets and Artois United Reserves. Insulators firsts
had a very tricky tie at Sedlescombe who are having a great season
in Division Three whereas 'Slators have struggled . The game itself
was tight and may have had a different outcome if an Insulators goal
hadn't been disallowed for offside. Midway through the second half
Pritchard scored twice in five minutes and Insulators were unable to
recover.
WKSFL Junior Cup
The two semi finals were both close, none more so than that between
AFC Borough Reserves and TW Ridgewaye Reserves. AFC Borough Reserves
has lost both league matches against their cup opponents, but took
the game to penalties after the game finished two-all. Matthew
Pickett and top scorer Oscar Harrison scored for Borough,
Nathan Cook and Billy McLeod for Ridgewaye. Penalties were neck and
neck until Ridgewaye missed their fifth, giving Borough the victory
by the narrowest of margins.
In the final they will come up against Insulators Reserves, who put
out the very useful and in form Artois United Reserves by two-nil.
In some ways it was a strange game, with lots of action but not a
tremendous amount for the 'keepers to do. Insulators took the lead
in the 13th minute when Harry Mascall calmly slotted in a penalty
after a foul. Artois then had the better of the game, but solid
defending kept the score at 1-0 at the break. In the second half the
game remained very competitive, with neither side giving ground but
Artois edging possession and remaining lively in attack. It was a
counter-attack in the 76th minute that saw Jake Pingault break
through and put the ball wide of the onrushing keeper. Despite a two
goal advantage, Artois remained dangerous throughout but Insulators
put up a fine team performance to make the final. Frank Meilack
refereed the game well.
Division One
On adjacent pitches at Tonbridge Farm, Simla knew that they had to
win against Charcott and hope that Artois United slipped up against
AFC Valour. It was not to be. Simla were held to a 1-1 draw by
Charcott, while Artois achieved the necessary win over AFC Valour by
a single goal, scored by Regan Corke. Division One's leading scorer
Bal Maher had scored for Simla but an equaliser by Ben Ailles made
the title impossible.
Pembury Sunday will finish third.

Division Three
Defeat for Brenchley at the hands of Royal Oak leaves Sedlescombe
Rangers as hot favourites for the Division Three title. Second place
medals are now being fought over by three teams.
Brenchley were looking good for the title until they surprisingly
lost at Ticehurst Village four weeks ago. Since then they have won
only once. Royal Oak won on Sunday 3-2, Joe Rutland (2) and
Neil Walker scoring. Royal Oak are a good bet for second spot if
they can maintain their recent form, but there is a question as to
whether they will actually get to play all their remaining matches!
With Sedlescombe and Insulators busy in cup ties, the other games in
Division Three concerned those in the lower reaches of the table.
Dunton Green had won only once in their previous six matches but did
the double over Westerham with a 4-1 win, goals coming from Sam
Evenden, Ed Baker,
and there were two for Frankie Ingram. Jamie Ward replied for
Westerham, who have had a terrible second half of the season winning
only once in eleven matches.
Ticehurst Village owed their win over AFC Tonbridge to a single goal
scored by Shane Bumstead.
Speldhurst Rangers are ending the season in reasonably good order,
with only one defeat in their last six games. On Sunday it was a
two-nil win against Tonbridge United in what is described as a
boring game. The first goal was credited as an own goal conceded by
the United 'keeper and the second to Ollie Crees with a volley that
perhaps could have been better dealt with by the custodian.
