West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 19th December 2021

Most games took place as scheduled. The League now enters a two week break before resuming on 9th January.

Kent Sunday Premier Cup

Simla travelled to Ashford to play their delayed fourth round match with Ashford Genclik. They came home with a  4-3 defeat behind them. Harry Hudson, Brad Austin and Jon Lord scored. That leaves Artois United as the leagues sole representatives in the fifth round, in which they will host the strong Ashford Sunday League side Market Hotel in mid-January.

Kent Sunday Junior Trophy

Royal Oak's game against Vinters of the Maidstone League was postponed. They will play early in January to try to earn a home tie against Sandwich Town of the Thanet Sunday League.

Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup

Dormansland Rockets made it through to the next round with a comprehensive 10- 0 win at Parkside Rovers. I have no details of the game.

Division One / Two

With the 'split' fast approaching, there is a lot to play for with only two teams, Pembury Sunday and Simla, guaranteed a place at the top table as things stand. Artois United need only a point from their final four matches to make it three.

Only seven points separate fourth from ninth. Those teams in the middle will have several battles in January to secure a berth in Division One.

Pembury Sunday maintained their top spot with a six-nil away win at strugglers TW Ridgewaye. It's now seven wins on the trot, in which they have scored thirty three goals and conceded just five.  In this latest game, 'keeper Toby Forward kept his fifth clean sheet of the season. Tom Price scored three of their six, Luke Packman, Josh Knight and Lewis Puxty were the other scorers.

Green Lane are a little behind with their fixtures, but should stay in the top half. They did their cause no harm with a four nil win at AFC Valour, goals coming from Ollie Hyland, Bayley Colbran, Dom Welsh and leading scorer, Bal Maher. Harry Hickmott, who usually plies his trade at the other end of the field, kept the clean sheet in goal.

AFC Borough have recovered from a lean spell in which they had played and been defeated by the top three sides.  They won 5 - 3 away at Goudhurst United with Ed Handford, George Holman, Marcus Alexander, Connor Bowesman and Jacob Feasey, being the goalscorers. United's scorers were Michael Peevor, Jonny Riordan and Harvey Parks.

Charcott did their goal difference a massive lift by beating AFC Tonbridge 18-0 at Tonbridge Farm. The long list of goalscorers begins with a treble hat-trick for Luke French, who had previously scored only five League goals all season. James Coleman scored three, Tom Coleman and Ben Ailles each scored two. Rounding things off were Kane Walker and Pete Tubb with one apiece.

Division Three

Headline result was Riverside Colts first win of the season, 7 - 0 at home to Westerham. Colts had been showing signs of improvement in recent weeks. Unfortunately I have not been sent any details of the game.

Brenchley were unable to play their game, which gave Insulators Reserves an opportunity to make up ground. This they did with a 6- 0 home win against Dunton Green.

Insulators started quickly and within the first few minutes had hit the woodwork and seen a smart save from the Dunton Green 'keeper. The' keeper made another good save from Harry Mascall in the 15th minute, but the rebound fell to Jake Pingault who gave the home side a 1-0 lead on 15 minutes.

Dunton Green remained dangerous on the counter attack and narrowly missed with a header from a corner. On 25 minutes Toby Gandell was fouled inside the area and Harry Mascall calmly slotted in the penalty. 10 minutes before the break Nik Weedon played a great through ball and Jake Pingault got his second to make the score 3-0. Just as half time approached, there was some fine play by Insulators with Jake Freeman making a strong run down the wing and passing to Nik Weedon to score - an excellent move,

Whilst Dunton Green remained dangerous on the break, they had to rely on some fine work by their keeper who made a series of excellent saves. On 67 minutes Mascall scored a fine individual goal, beating three players before finding the net. The final goal came just before the final whistle when Harry Mascall completed his hat trick with a penalty after a foul on Bailey Wright.

TW Ridgewaye Reserves appear to have turned the corner after many winless weeks. They won their second game in two weeks, this time at AFC Borough Reserves. Mush Miah, Billy McLeod, Adam Reid and Dan Thomas were on target. Borough's scorer was Jamie Hanmore.

This Division will have a tight finish if current form can be maintained. The  top four all have games to come against one another. Artois United Reserves, who are improving this past few weeks, also have to meet each of the top four. No-one will want to drop points!
