West Kent Sunday League News Report – 14th November 2021

Things are hotting up in both Divisions, with only a few points separating those at the top.

Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup

Dormansland Rockets began their campaign with a crushing 12-1 victory over Barden Ballers FC of the Leatherhead Sunday League. Ashley Hollom topped the scoring list with five goals. The others came from  Ali Jones (3), Rich Wetton, Miguel Figueroa-Dunne and a brace from Rhys White.

The game was originally due to be played at the Ballers ground, but was switched as both clubs  thought that £156 to hire the pitch was a bit excessive! Then the referees fee would have to be paid on top of that. These councils are hardly encouraging teams to play football!

Division One / Two

Simla are now level on points with Artois United with only a small goal differential keeping them from heading the table. They did their goal difference a power of good with a 7-1 win at TW Ridgewaye. Their was a hat-trick from Chris Stoate, his first league goals of the season, two came from from top scorer Ian Parsons and one each from Matt Coleman and Dan Lawrence, both also scoring for the first time in league matches this season.

Pembury Sunday made it three wins in a row, beating Odukwe 3-1 with goals by Charlie Johns, Tom Price and Steve Harper. David Crouch replied for Odukwe.

The local derby in Paddock Wood between Green Lane and Paddock Wood was, as expected, a keenly contested but very sporting match after which Green Lane came off 3 - 2 winners, putting to an end Paddock Wood's recent three match run of big wins. Two goals from Bal Maher and one from Johnny Phillips proved too much for the Wood, for whom Lee Chapman and Sean Bodle scored.

In mid table, AFC Valour ended a four match losing streak with a 6-0 win against AFC Borough. That game featured a four goals haul for Johnny Connors, one goal each from Callum Hoare and Matt Jagelman, while in goal Paul Redfern kept the clean sheet, the only one of the day across the league..

Charcott and visitors Goudhurst United had a close game in which Charcott picked up their third league win of the season, defeating Goudhurst 2-1 with the goals scored by Jack Ailles and James Coleman. James Found scored for United, who have now lost three League games in a row.

Division Three

Royal Oak's march toward the top of the table came to a grinding halt at the hands of Sedlescombe Rangers. Rangers travelled to Hawkenbury knowing they needed a result to stay in contention. And they got probably more than they bargained for by winning 7-1. It was Royal Oak's first defeat of the season.  Rangers scorers were Alvin Scott, Zak Boutwood and Bradley Pritchard each with two and the seventh was from Rhys Daniels. Oak's leading scorer Ashley Bell scored their consolation. Scott now leads the Division Three scoring table with sixteen so far this season.

Brenchley stay top after hammering bottom side Riverside Colts by 9-1. There was a hat-trick for Mick Williams, two each for Mark Springate and Conor Williams with Paul Smith and Tom Lowe also scoring.

Insulators Reserves beat Tonbridge United to remain fourth. Insulators started fast and Ben Boodle took just three  minutes to score with a shot from 12 yards. This was quickly followed by a second from Jake Pingault. It might have looked like a goal-fest was on its way, but that was quickly disproved as only a last-ditch tackle by Martin Ives prevented Tonbridge pulling one back just moments later. The home side continued to have more of the ball but Tonbridge looked dangerous on the break. in the 35th minute Tonbridge were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box was struck by Hayden Jarvis which found its way into the net with a wicked bounce that deceived the home keeper. Somehow the game got to half time at 2-1.

The second half saw Insulators have most of the play, but the final ball didn't quite come off. Tonbridge continued to have counter-attacks but these were mainly cleared up by a well-organised defence. Overall, a good game which the home side deserved to win but United played better than their league position suggests.

AFC Borough Reserves maintained their good run of results beating Dunton Green 5 -1 a game in which their leading scorer Oscar Harrison scored four. Connor Edmunds hit the fifth, Ben Clive replied for the Green.

Westerham and TW Ridgewaye Reserves played out a two - all draw at King Gorge V Field. I don't have the Westerham scorers. Gavin Hawes scored both for Ridgewaye.
