West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 12th December 2021

The weather again had an effect on the programme, with all top division games being called off. Most of the rest did go ahead.

Kent Sunday Premier Cup

Artois United went through after their 3-2 home win over Albion FC from the Ashford League. Nathan Moseley, Connor Morrow and
Ollie Sugden scored the goals. Sugden is the Reserves leading goalscorer this season, scoring his first for the first team.

A waterlogged pitch denied Simla a trip to Ashford Genclik. They will try again next week

Kent Sunday Junior Cup

Four WKSFL sides were involved. Both AFC Valour and Charcott went out to opponents from other leagues. For Charcott it was a 3 -4 home defeat at the hands of Shadoxhurst Sunday. Ben Ailles, Jools Walker and James Colman scored for Charcott, but Ryan Carter, Connor Gower, Lewis O'Leary and Kenneth Denton sent the visitors into the fifth round.

Valour travelled down to Smarden to play Troggs FC but had to go home empty handed after a 5-2 defeat. Paul Shuffle-Botham and Craig Dobereiner were the goalscorers.

The third game was between two two WKSFL sides, AFC Tonbridge and Goudhurst United. Goudhurst had beaten AFC Tonbridge 6-0 in the League and this time they inflicted a massive 15 - 0 hammering. I have no details of the game other than a long list of goalscorers, namely Jonny Riordan (3), Rob Briley (2), Michael Peevor (2), James Found (2), Jamie Crouch, Jack Martin, David Denton (3) and Joe Bilsby.

Dan Hopkin in the Goudhurst goal kept the clean sheet.

Division One / Two

All three games were called off.

Division Three

Much better here, with only one postponement and some big scores.

Highlight of the morning was top of the table Brenchley's 14 -1 destruction of Tonbridge United. That score included a double hat-trick for Mike Williams, three goals for Connor Williams, two for Rhys Powell, one each for Ross Tuhill and Mark Springate. There was also an own goal. Josh Salvidge replied for United.

Insulators Reserves kept up the pressure with a 6-3 home win over bottom outfit Riverside Colts. Insulators went into the game with confidence but within three  minutes were a goal down after a clearance struck a Riverside player and drifted into the home net. Within three more minutes Jake Pingault equalised from the edge of the penalty area and five minutes later added a second from just inside the area. Any thoughts of pulling away were shattered as Riverside equalised on fourteen minutes with a shot from the edge of the area. On the half hour Pingault ran through from a long ball pass and calmly made it 3-2 and claim a hat-trick. Soon after, Riverside hit the crossbar. Shortly before half time Bailey Wright made it 4-2 to the home side at half time.

In the 53rd minute Josh Heinricci made it 5-2 from close range then Pingault scored his fourth from a 25 yard free kick. A minute later Riverside added their third to make it 6-3. There were no more goals, but plenty of chances with a fine tackle by Martin Ives for Insulators stopping a dangerous situation.

Insulators always had more of the play, but Riverside played some decent football and were dangerous on the break.

Artois United Reserves continued their good run of form with their fourth win in a row.  It was though a close game at Speldhurst, where Rangers who, it is reported. were clearly hungover from their Christmas party. A first half goal from Rhys Newton put them ahead and a fine goal from Keith Ingles in the second half, lobbing Ranger's 'keeper Baldwin in classic fashion, put the game beyond the home side's reach.

Close on their heels in the middle of the table are AFC Borough Reserves, who have also won four league games in a row. They hadn't played for two weeks, so are a bit behind in their fixtures. In their game at Dunton Green, a 7-3 win, leading scorer Oscar Harrison hit a hat-trick which took his season total to nineteen.  Goals from Chris Hutchins (2),  Ed Handford and Nick Jones added to the total of seven. Dunton Green are struggling to keep the goals out, but may take some comfort from their three goals scored by Sam Evenden ( 2) and Josh Chandler.

After nine winless games, Tunbridge Wells Ridgewaye Reserves won 2-1 at Ticehurst Village, who have now lost four on the trot. Dan Thomas scored both for Ridgewaye, Tom Allen (no relation!) for Ticehurst. Ticehurst have been having problems with player availability and have been given next Sunday off to rest and recuperate before the holiday break.
