West Kent Sunday League News Report – 7th November 2021

This week's report begins with news of the sad demise of St John's Yard FC. Members since 2005, they finally succumbed to the perennial problem of not enough players willing to commit to getting out of bed on a Sunday morning. In accordance with League rules, their record has been deleted. The Division 1/2 table below includes that adjustment.

Division One / Two

Leaders Artois United held their position with a 3-0 win at Green Lane, goals by Regan Corke, Peter Shaw and Lucas Murrain, while Paddock Wood climbed into second place with a 5-0 win over Dormansland Rockets. Leading scorer Simon Hammond scored twice, there was one each for  Matt Reed, Rob Montandon and Phil Abbott.

Simla were without a game this week.

Pembury Sunday are hot on the heels of the leaders and have a game in hand. They won 3-1 at AFC Borough with goals from  Lewis Puxty, Lewis Salter and Alex Horton. George Holman replied for AFC Borough.

Odukwe have slipped down the table after a good start, but returned to winning ways with a close 3 - 2 win against AFC Valour. James Smith, Lewis Swaby and Jordan Masters scored. In reply Valour produced a penalty converted by Tony Revell and a strike by Ash Wells.

Charcott gained their second win of the season, beating Insulators 4-0 at Tonbridge Farm. Luke French claimed two of the goals, James Coleman and Tom Coleman the others. In goal, James Kelly claimed the clean sheet, his and his clubs second of the season. Insulators were always second after conceding three early goals, but kept on trying.

Down at the bottom, TW Ridgewaye met AFC Tonbridge, both of whom had 'lost' points gained against St John's Yard and thus went back to zero. Ridgewaye claimed the spoils with a 7-2 win. Callum Seal hit four, Johnny Hughes, James Corner and Daniel Paun made it seven.  AFC Tonbridge are soldiering on with Alex Wooster and Reece Porter reducing the deficit.

Division Three

Brenchley are on a good run of five games without defeat and inflicted upon Sedlescombe Rangers their first loss of the season. They enjoyed a 3-0 win, which puts them level on points with Royal Oak wit goal difference separating the two. Their top marksman Conor Williams scored twice, Michel van Oorschot adding the third.

With Sedlescombe Rangers losing at Brenchley, Royal Oak took top spot with a 4-2 win away at Dunton Green. Their leading scorer and now the division's equal top scorer Ash Bell scored twice to take his season's tally to 14. Dan Lazell and Jack Williams scored the others. Ed Baker and Henry Smart scored for the Green, who have lost three of their last four games.

There will be a big game next Sunday at Hawkenbury, when Royal Oak host Sedlescombe with the latter wanting to get back on track.

Insulators Reserves stay fourth after a close game with TW Ridgewaye Reserves. This was excellent end-to-end game which either team could have won. In the early stages Insulators probably had more of the ball but Ridgewaye broke through on several occasions and either home keeper Craig Smith made a fine save or the forward missed the chance. Eventually on thirty minutes Toby Gandell played a fine ball in from the right for top scorer Harry Mascall to finish well. HT 1-0 to Insulators

Ridgewaye came out with purpose in the second half and dominated proceedings. It was no surprise when, on 55 minutes, they equalised with a fine shot by Billy McLeod. At that moment the smart money would have been on Ridgewaye. They continued to have the better of the game, but slowly Insulators clawed their way back in. Chances came at both ends with both 'keepers excelling. In the end it was a penalty 10 minutes from the end for the home side that made the difference. Harry Mascall tucked it away calmly.

A sporting game well refereed by Jim Bodle.

Speldhurst Rangers lost ground after losing 3-1 at home to AFC Borough Reserves. Harry Bourne scored for Rangers, it was Oscar Harrison (2), and Ryan Hackworth for AFC Borough.

Artois United Reserves hit Tonbridge United for eight in a Tonbridge Farm derby. Olly Sugden hit a hat-trick their 8- 1 win and there were also goals from  Mark Ingles (2), Adam Hardy (2) and Stefan Hardy.

Finally, Riverside Colts gave a good account of themselves at home to Ticehurst Village but eventually succumbed to 7 - 2 defeat. It was a fast start for Ticehurst as they raced into a 4-0 lead within the first 30 minutes of the game, with goals coming from Jason Marsh (2), Oli Marsh and Leon Fisher. In the second half Riverside Colts looked to get back into the game with a cross looping straight in before Leon Fisher and Tristan Holman added further goals for Ticehurst to make it 6-1. The home team struck back with their second of the game, but not long after Ticehurst's Leon Fisher then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with the final result 7-2 to Ticehurst Village.
