West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 6th February 2022

The remaining issue in the split of Division 1/2 was decided when Charcott beat Odukwe to claim the final place. In Division Three, the race for honours is becoming very interesting. Once again, it was another kind weather Sunday with only two games being called off.

Surrey Lower Junior Cup

Dormansland Rockets have made the last eight with a 6 -  0 win against Spitfire United from the Croydon area. There was a hat-trick for Rich Wetton plus goals from Dave Heaton, Miguel Figueira-Dunne and Martyn Bishop.

Division One / Two

Charcott sealed their place in the top tier with a 4 - 1 over Odukwe. Two goals from Jools Walker paved the way, Pete Tubb and Luke French also scored.

The top two both won and remain level on points. Artois United overcame Goudhurst United 6-0 with Dave Cherry and Lucas Murrain both scoring twice. Also on the scoresheet were Peter Shaw and Kane Joseph. In goal, Dave Holdstock kept the clean sheet, his fifth of the season.

Simla hosted Green Lane and came off 3-0 winners thanks to Joe Fuller (who has been in the goals recently), Alex Carey and Matt Coleman.

Third placed Pembury Sunday's game at home to AFC Valour was one of the two to fall foul of the weather. That game will be rescheduled. It is going to be a three horse race for the honours.

The teams in bold type will go on to form Division One for the remainder of the season. The bottom six will form Division Two. All points and goals will be carried forward in both. They will play each other once, plus any games not played in the 'first half' will be added to ensure everyone plays the same number of games by the end of the season. AFC Tonbridge drop to Division Three, but the record of goals and points gained against them by the others remains on the record.

Division Three

AFC Tonbridge have joined this Division for the remainder of the season. They started with a clean record.

Sedlescombe Rangers maintained their recent good form with a 5-2 win at AFC Borough Reserves. They are now level on points at the top with Brenchley, the two have the same goal difference but Brenchley cling on to the top spot by virtue of three more goals scored! But, Sedlescombe have two games in hand. On Sunday, it was Jack Gordon and Jack Bowen who scored for Borough. I do not have Rangers scorers.

Insulators Reserves are still hot on the heels of the two at the top but have played more games. They travelled to Ticehurst Village, whose run of three wins was brought to a stop by the 7-2 win for the visitors. On a heavy pitch Insulators started well. Jake Pingault scored early after a pass from James Philpott. Within thirty seconds the home side were level with a goal from Josh Lincoln.

The game was then end-to-end, with some decent football from both sides. It took an excellent shot from 25 yards by Pingault to restore the Insulators lead and shortly before half time Philpott added a third with a header from Martin Ives cross. Sam Beaney the home keeper pulled off a couple of fine saves.

The second half was full of action and became the Bailey Wright show. On as a second half sub, he made it 4-1 with a great header from an even better cross from Cole Walsh. On the hour Wright scored with a shot from a Harry Mascall pass. Ticehurst were then put in an impossible position with a dismissal and injury which left them with 9 men for the remaining twenty minutes.

Wright completed his hat trick with a close range shot following a cross from Martin Page-Mitchell pass to make it 6-1.  He then added his fourth with another shot to complete a tremendous half. To their great credit, Ticehurst continued to play with passion and Oli Marsh scored the last goal of the game.

The referee, Martin Tomlinson, had a fine game.

Royal Oak's cup run has put them behind with their League fixtures, but they are still in with a reasonable chance of honours. They had a setback on Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Artois United Reserves for whom Duncan Ibootson scored the all important goal. Goalkeeper Jamie Holder kept his fourth clean sheet of the season.

TW Ridgewaye Reserves made it seven games since their last defeat with a 7-2 win over Riverside Colts. There were two goals from Callum Seal, one each from Dom Lambert, Billy McLeod, Dennis Njiri, Eden Northcott and Will Egan.

And finally, AFC Tonbridge recorded their first points of the season in beating Dunton Green 3-2. They had bravely carried on in the top division, despite being soundly beaten every week. The Management Committee and the clubs felt it was in everyone's best interests to drop them down into Division Three to let them carry on playing as they wished to do.  Goalscorers Rob Harman, Ben Taylor and Alex Wooster were no doubt much celebrated. Frankie Ingram scored both Dunton Green's goals.
