West Kent Sunday League News Report – 5th December 2021

I knew I should have said nothing! Bad weather affected the programme, causing all but six matches to be called off. Games at Tonbridge Farm went ahead as scheduled.

Division One / Two

Two sides at the wrong end of the table met at Tonbridge Farm where home side AFC Tonbridge picked up their first league point of the season against Insulators.

Insulators took the lead through Ben Boodle who is fine form for the Paddock Wood club. AFC Tonbridge equalised with a fairly soft goal scored by Callum Wadge, only for Insulators manager Marc Scott (pressed into duty) scoring a fine goal in the top corner from the edge of the box. Insulators missed a number of decent chances to extend the lead and that would ultimately cost them the points. The score remained 1-2 at half time.

AFC Tonbridge came out firing for the second half and equalised via a deflection, the goal being credited to Rob Harman and then took a 3-2 lead through Reece Porter. Ash James equalised for the way side with a fine volley and that's how it ended.

In the only other top division game, Simla went into pole position after a 5-1 home win against Odukwe. Matt Coleman (2), Luke Leppard (2) and Brad Draper scored for Simla. i do not have Odukwe's goalscorer. Odukwe have lost their last four games in all competitions.

Division Three

It was a better picture in Division Three with four of the six games going ahead.

Royal Oak missed a chance to gain ground on Brenchley, being held to a 1-1 draw by TW Ridgewaye Reserves. Leading scorer Ash Bell scored for the Oak, Dan Paun equalised for Ridgewaye.

Insulators Reserves are catching up with the leaders after their sixth successive win, this time at home to Speldhurst Rangers.

On a cold and wet morning at the Memorial ground, Insulators seemed the keener team before kick off and this was certainly the story of the first half.  Speldhurst had watched Insulators warm up not feeling envious at all. Eventually Speldhurst slightly warmed up on the pitch (much to Insulators players displeasure). Justin Guthridge hit the post from a free kick two minutes in. Craig Smith, the Insulators 'keeper knew his angles by the looks of things as he watched it onto his pot. Otherwise Rangers didn't really trouble the Insulators goal. Both teams tried to cope with the conditions as best they could. Insulators created several excellent chances with a mixture of poor finishing and super goalkeeping somehow keeping the game level at half time.

Unfortunately a strong 50 / 50 challenge meant both teams losing a player to injury before halt time. It was later confirmed that Khris Weedon had suffered a broken ankle. Lets hope he has a speedy recovery as he has been one of the form players for Insulators this season.

Speldhurst certainly improved after the break and the game was a much more even affair with both teams missing good chances to score.  Speldhurst had a strong penalty shout turned down when Dan 'the badger' Kelly had a shot at goal which hit the insulators defenders hand. With twenty minutes to go, Insulators changed formation and personnel and the reward was instant as Harry Mascall scored the opening goal of the game after Rangers defence failed to clear a rebound..

Speldhurst responded, Insulators defended stoutly. Nik Weedon scored the second goal of the game when Ranges stopped for an offside flag that never came. The focus changed to secure another clean sheet for Craig Smith in the Insulators goal. A great game played in good spirits and hopefully we manage to get more games played over the festive period.

Another team on the up is Artois United Reserves, who notched their third victory in a row with a 4-3 success over Ticehurst Village. Ollie Sugden scored all four goals for Artois United. Scorers for Ticehurst Village were Nathan Green, Josh Lincoln and Harvey Maskell. The Village have now won only one of their last five games.

Tonbridge United and Riverside Colts enjoyed a five-all draw with the latter collecting their first point of the season at the eleventh time of trying. United have also yet to win a game, but at least are scoring goals after a very lean spell of three goals in seven outings. Their five goals came from Hayden Jarvis (2), Warren Jarvis, Cameron Dunbar and Sean Longman. I do not have Colts scorers.
