West Kent Sunday League News Report – 5th September 2021
The new season began on Sunday with a full programme of thirteen
matches. There were some big scores! On a more formal note, the League
is a little short of referees at the moment. Any qualified referee
reading this who can perhaps do a game on a Sunday please contact
referee's secretary Frank Meilack - contact details here.
Division One
First of all, a reminder that after two seasons of disruption, clubs
agreed to combine and play the top two Divisions in two phases. Phase
one, which we hope to be completed before Christmas, will see fifteen teams play each
other once. The table will then split, with the top eight teams going into
Division One and the remainder into Division Two. After Christmas, the
teams in the two groups will play each other once. The final positions
at the end of the season will form the template for the 2022 - 2023
season.
Although it is early days, one of the new teams is top of the table. Odukwe announced themselves with an 11- 0 defeat of AFC Tonbridge.
Goalscorers were James Smith (4), Peter Gamage, Jake Donoghue,
David Crouch (3) and Jordan Masters with two. In goal, Christoph McCloud
kept the clean sheet
Pembury Sunday also began well, beating Dormansland Rockets
7- 0 at Woodside.Their goals came from Scott Moran and Steve Harper
each with two, Jack Latham, Tom Price and Charlie Johns. Toby Forward
recorded Pembury's first goalkeeping clean sheet of the season.
Charcott and Green Lane
both scored six and kept clean sheets. Charcott came away from AFC
Borough with a victory thanks to Jay Pring 2, Ben Ailles, Luke French,
Sam Richardson and own goal. Jamie Kelly kept the clean sheet. Green Lane secured three points at
home to St John's Yard, thanks to Harry Savva, Ollie Hyland, two
from James Knight, Johnny Phillips and Harry Hickmott. Stan Hill was their unbeaten goalie.
Artois United defeated TW Ridgewaye
7-2 at Yew Tree Road. Ridgewaye's scorers were Mushed Miah and
Adam Davies-Knight. Artois scorers featured a hat-trick from Regan
Corke, two from Peter Shaw and one each from Ben Holder and Lucas
Murrain.
Simla travelled to Paddock Wood
where the game ended with a 5-1 to the visitors. Matt Reed scored for
the Wood but reigning champions Simla prevailed with goals two each scored
by Luke Leppard and Elliot Moon, plus one from
Brad Draper.
And finally Goudhurst United and AFC Valour
fought out a 2-2 draw at Chequer Field. Jon Bilsby scored both tor
United, Callum Hoare and Connor Robbins replied for Valour.
