West Kent Sunday League Report Sunday 26th February 2017

There only ten games scheduled, one was called off, so it's a short report this week.

Division One

Simla's chances of wining the League took a big hit when they were beaten 3-2 at home by Tonbridge Origin, who move above them into second place.

Although Simla created numerous chances, they failed to convert them to goals until the last ten minutes of the match.

Tonbridge Origin took the opportunity of the few chances they had and went three up through Jimmy Shepherd, Nathan Rivett and Ant Kent, before finally Simla scored twice late on through Matt Newman and Ian Parsons. Simla secretary Geoff Mills said 'well done to Origin who proved to be the better team on the day.'

Insulators hold the key to the final outcome. Both Tonbridge Origin and Simla have to visit the Memorial Ground, Simla's other game is away at Dormansland Rockets.  Artois United, who have finished their league programme, have a vastly superior goal difference.

Insulators made it two wins in a row and avenged their defeat by Armada a month ago with a 2-1 home win. Matt Morosoli scored early for the home side from a corner giving them a 1-0 nil lead. Armada's Jack Rusbridge levelled it with a penalty and then came a penalty for Insulators after Martin Page- Mitchell was brought down in the box. That one was put away by Simon Percival. All the scoring was before 25 minutes has passed on the clock. Armada had most of the play in the second half, Insulators had a number of good chances on the counter attack. Neither team could score, the end result stayed at 2-1.

The game between Dormansland Rockets and TW Foresters was the one called off.

Division Two

The top three were not in league action, so the games between the bottom teams get the attention.

Cassidy's Phoenix and SE Spitfires played out a 1-1 draw at Bayham. Alberto Fernandez scored for Cassidy's, Sean Ludlam for the visiting Spitfires.

There was another draw at Hawkenbury, where the the game between the hosts and Langton Green finished 2-2. Callum Barclay and Adam Rimmer scored for Hawks, Carl Wilkinson and Ali Gill for the Green.

The only winners on the day were Brenchley, who ended Green Lane's recent run of good form with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Michael van Oorschot and Tom Lowe. James Knight scored for the Lane.

Division Three

The only game in Division Three saw Rusthall Club Athletic's hopes of a runner's up spot ended by Green Street Blues, who themselves moved into second place in their final league game.  Matt Heathcote and Tom Wilken, from the penalty spot, scored the all-important goals. Dave Waters scored for the Club.

Greeen Street Blues will claim those runner's up medals unless Crowborough Town beat Rusthall Club in their final game. This was due to be next Sunday, but has been postponed. Blues will have to wait a bit.

Division Four

FC Grinstead gained a massively important win against TW Foresters Reserves to give them a mathematical chance at least of the Divisional winner's trophies.  Connor Tobin scored both for Grinstead, Simnon Hammond for Foresters. FC Grinstead's remaining games are away to Tonbridge United next Sunday, then at home to Tonbridge Origin Reserves the Sunday after. They do have to win by a margin of 28 goals, which most would say is a pretty long shot!

A win in either game would definitely put FC Grinstead into second place, but FC Hayward are not giving up the fight. A three-nil win at Tonbridge United (scorers unknown) means that they need to win next Sunday against Tonbridge Origin Reserves and hope that Hayward slip up.

Spring Cup Senior Section Group 2

The reduced size of the League and the very helpful winter weather has allowed a Spring Cup to be held for the first time since 2011 - 2012. This season's competition involves 26 of the League's teams and is split into Senior and Junior sections. Each section consists of four or five teams, playing each other once.

Goudhurst United and Paddock Wood kicked off the Senior Section (Group 2). United recorded their first win of the season with a single goal scored by Stuart Andrews from a penalty. Stuart Bidwell kept his side's first clean sheet of the season.
