West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 24th November 2019

At last a Sunday morning when almost all games took place, although several pitches were reported with the going being very soft. There were even games in Paddock Wood! And there were goals galore, with seven different players scoring hat-tricks.

WKSFL Senior Cup

There were three games in Group B of the Senior Cup. Cassidy's Phoenix find themselves at the top of the table but will be playing a waiting game. They have played five of their six matches with only Royal Oak to face, next Sunday. On a very wet Bayham Road pitch they overcame local rivals St John's Yard 3-0, with top scorer Ben Boodle again on the scoresheet. Other goals by Aaron Holmes (his first of the season) and Rob Harman, plus a clean sheet by 'keeper Tom Joyner were too much for the Yard.

Simla crushed Biggin Hill 8-0 at Tonbridge Farm. Brad Austin was one of the day's hat-trick men, top scorer Ian Parsons weighed in with a couple and there were also scores from Matt Coleman, Greg Nicholson and Matt Crompton. In goal, Joe Cullip kept his sixth clean sheet of the season and is way ahead of everyone else in that column.

Charcott and Royal Oak met in the remaining match at Hawkenbury, the outcome being a narrow 2-1 win for Charcott. A penalty converted by Oak's Ashley Bell was more than matched by goals from Luke French and Alex Cole.

WKSFL Junior Cup

Paddock Wood were without a game and it was unfortunate for Ticehurst Village that their game with Goudhurst fell to the weather. Tonbridge Origin, Yalding & Laddingford and Brenchley all took advantage to gain ground with home wins.

Yalding & Laddingford have put aside a poor start to the season. They had a good 4-1 win over Hawkhurst United with the goals coming from Liam Chapman, Sam Stonebridge, an own goal and at present one by whom we know not, something have gone missing. Hawkhurst United did not send in their scorer's name.

Tonbridge Origin have done nothing but play cup matches of one sort or another for two months. Their opponents, TW Ridgewaye Reserves hadn't played for a month and were perhaps a bit rusty. Origin won 6-3, despite Johnny Hughes valiant effort in scoring three for Ridgewaye. Origin's striker Harry Bourne also scored three, his colleagues Alex Webster, Chris Gregory and Reece Dangerfield made it six.

Insulators Reserves were unable to follow up their fine win at Ticehurst last week, going down 2-1 at Brenchley. Cole Walsh scored for the visitors, while for Brenchley it was Ross Tuhill and Jim Morrow striking. Brenchley are another team that has hardly played recently, only two games in six weeks.

Division One

A big win for Artois United at Insulators saw them go to within one point of leaders Simla.  This was Insulators first game since 6the October and it started well with a great goal by Martin Page-Mitchell. However, Artois soon got the better of the home side's defence and scored two quick goals. By half time the game was over at 1-4 to the away side with the Artois attack having too much pace for the Slators defence. At least the total surrender of the away fixture was met with some fight and pride and the final score stopped at a 7-1 win. Insulators have played Artois in three of their last four games so hopefully there are some easier times ahead!!

The full tally of Artois United scorers :- Saul Musengyi (4), Peter Shaw, Phil Abbott and Stefan Draper.

Green Lane kept in touch with a 5-1 win at home against Pembury Sunday. Another hat-trick here, from the Lane's Tommy Welch and a brace from Johnny Phillips overcame Pembury, for whom Luke Packham managed the sole reply.

The table below was adjusted following the resignation of Petts Wood Old Boys earlier in the week.

Division Two

There was only the one game scheduled and it was it seems a surprise result with Speldhurst Rangers coming off 7-3 winners against Artois United Reserves. Rangers had played only four games that have stayed on the record plus one chalked off following the resignation of FC Grinstead. Their goals for column stood at six before this goal rush. Rangers' Ollie Crees and Joe Howse both scored hat-tricks, with the seventh scored by James Hughes. Their opponents three goals were scored by Sam Baker, Adam Whatman and Dan Edmondson.

The league table below reflects the deletion of FC Grinstead's results.
