West Kent Sunday League News Report – Sunday 20th October 2019

Heavy rain made most pitches unplayable, but three games did escape the wrath of the weather.

Kent Sunday Junior Cup Second Round

Charcott made the long trip to Appledore at the second time of asking and came home with a 4-0 win under their belts. Scorers were  Jay Pring (3) and Ben Ailles.

TW Ridgewaye met AFC Valour in the other tie that was played.

The game only took place after an epic effort from officials of both clubs and the referee in the days before.  As the Hawkenbury pitch was likely to be ruled out by the local ground authority, two other pitches were booked, Ridgewaye which was also ruled unplayable on the day and East Peckham which was playable.  A big thank you should be extended to the AFC Valour management for getting the pitch marked on the day before.

The match was a close-run thing, ending 2-1 in favour of Ridgewaye.

A scrappy first half, which could have seen Ridgewaye three or four goals to the good, ended with Valour equalizing an Alex Moon strike (which their 'keeper could only palm into the net), with a well taken goal from a free kick awarded just outside the penalty area.

Picking the ball out of the net was pretty much the only thing Ben Adams in goal had to do all match. Goals were hard to come by and it took a penalty award late into the game to break the deadlock. A sending off for Valour followed the award of the spot kick for hand ball.  Daniel Kommu shot hard into the bottom corner and the ‘keeper did well to get a hand to it but could not save it.  Valour suffered with a couple of injuries which meant they had to continually shuffle their side so they had their fittest players in important positions.

Although Ridgewaye had most of the play and created a good number of chances this was always a tight game.. A deserved and hard fought win saw Ridgewaye into the third Round. Well done everyone, the players, team officials and the referee for their efforts in getting this game played.

Division Three

The only WKSFL game to beat the weather was down at Ticehurst, where the Village Club overcame TW Ridgewaye Reserves 4-3 with goals scored by  Leon Fisher (2), Jason Marsh and Ben Evans. Ticehurst move into second spot above their opponents.
