West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 18th March 2018

Yet another weekend of unseasonably wintry weather caused the postponment of several matches, mostly at the usual places I'm afraid to say. However there were decisive  results in two WKSFL Senior Cup Quarter Finals.

WKSFL Senior Cup

Two of the three scheduled quarter finals took place. Armada and Tonbridge Origin will go through to the semi-finals. If it stops raining and snowing, it is hoped to play the other two quarter-finals next week and the first leg of the semi-finals on April 1st.

Armada comprehensively beat Division Two's Cassidy's Phoenix 4 - 1 at Yew Tree Road with Harry Tampsett yet again on the scoresheet. He has scored 21 of his teams 47 in WKSFL competitions this season. Ben Renshaw scored two and Tom Critchley the fourth. Cassidy's scorer unknown.

There will be a new name on the cup for the first time in four seasons!

In the other tie, Tonbridge Origin exacted a measure of revenge for last season's final defeat by beating Simla 3-2 at Five Oak Green. Leading scorer Tom Cobb scored from the penalty spot, regular scorer Myles Lowden hit the back of the net as did Chris Gregory. For Simla, the goals came from Alex Carey and David Blundell.

Semi Final draw - two legs

Tonbridge Origin v FC Grinstead or Insulators
Artois United or Green Lane v Armada.

WKSFL Junior Cup Semi Finals

Both ties took place as scheduled. Both the League games between Speldhurst Rangers and St John's Yard were high scoring affairs and so this cup tie proved to be. The Yard go into the second leg with the advantage of a 5-2 win behind them. Yard took the lead in the first half with a goal from Dan Hunter. Mushed Miah scored within two minutes  making it 0 - 2 at half time. In the second half Dan Hunter and Mushed Miah scored one more each, James Hughes and Josh Fermor replied for for Rangers but it was the visitors Joshua Williams scoring the final goal. it was said to be a very good game in freezing conditions.

In the other tie, Tonbridge Origin Reserves pipped TW Ridgewaye 2-1 at Skinner's. The win made it four in a row for Origin, thanks to goals from Ben Holder and Jonny Barber, both of whom have scored seventeen in this season's WKSFL fixtures. In reply, Ridgewaye's Dan Thomas scored his fifteenth of the season and it's now six consecutive games in which he has scored.

Division One

The only scheduled game, between Green Lane and Dormansland, was predictably a casualty of the weather. Paddock Wood pitches seem to be perpetually waterlogged. Green Lane have played only two home games this year, while Dormansland Rockets have played only twice at all this year and not since 28th January.

Division Two

Likewise the important double-header between Crowborough Town and Royal Oak could not be played. Crowborough Town have played one match at home since 26th November last year.

Better news from Goudhurst, where United got the better of Langton Green by 6-2. Division Two's leading scorer Will Mantle notched four of them, Ricky Norman and Ben Young were also on the scoresheet. The Green's scorers were Ed Thorn and Justin Guthridge.
