West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 11th September 2016

Goals galore on Sunday! On a sadder note, The Boars FC have now officially withdrawn from the League. This means there are just 40 teams competing, the lowest number for a very long time and shows a 50% decline in team numbers since 2002. Anyone listening in the various FA's??

Also, Goudhurst United have been given a two week break in order to establish a first team squad that will be competitive in Division One. Any prospective players are invited to contact Martin Ridgely on 07900 272526!

Division One

Only two games were played.

At Goldsmith's, playing against Blackham & Ashurst, Simla scored nine for the second week running. Three goals came from David Blundell in the first half, his second hat-trick in as many games. There was one pulled back for Blackham & Ashurst by Anthony Clarke, thus it was 3-1 to Simla at half time.

The Second half was dominated by Simla with another six goals. Three for Ian Parsons and one each for James Macgregor, Luke Leppard and Joe Adams made the final score 9-1.

In the other game, Tunbridge Wells Foresters travelled to Southwood Road and came away having beaten Rusthall Rangers 8-0. A hat-trick from Taylor Galvin and two from Simon Hammond paved the way, others were added by Richard Clibbens, Steven Johnson and Christopher Stares.

Division Two

As probably expected, Paddock Wood are early table toppers. They didn't have it all their own way at Brenchley, winning by a 5-3 score with goals from John Fuller (2), George Bourne, Stefan Draper and Dan Green Jr. Brenchley took the fight to the Wood, scoring through James Woods, Michael Van Oorschot and a penalty converted by Dave Hartfield.

Ollie Muggeridge of Cassidy's Phoenix made it six for the season so far, with a four goal haul in his side's 5-2 win at Hadlow Hornets. Alex Cooper scored the other one. Hornets scorers were Matt Crompton and Ben Holder.

Those top two, Paddock Wood and Cassidy's will meet at the Elm Tree next Sunday morning.

Hawkenbury Sunday's players managed to score eight times against South East Spitfires, although two were at the wrong end as they and Spitfirfes shared ten goals. The result was a 6-4 win for the Hawks. Scorers at the right end were Russ Anderson (2), Michael Collins (2), Tom Newman and Callum Barclay. Apart from the Hawk's generosity in giving away two goals, Spitfires also scored through Sean Ludlam and Daniel Clarke-Finlay.

Gardener's Arms continued their decent start to the season with a 4-3 home win against Langton Green. Some names very familiar to those in the Tonbridge area are on the scoresheet, they being Kane Joseph, Stuart Crush, Jack Moore and Aaron Austin. The Greenīs replies were by Ed Thorn, Jon Donoghue and Carl Wilkinson.

Yet another draw with Ticehurst Village, said St John's Yard Secretary Tony Vanns after the game. There was one draw last season, two the season before. Ticehurst have the advantage though, with a solitary win from the last five games. This latest encounter was a close game in which TVC scored first through Ricky Angel. The Yard equalised within three minutes thanks to Lewis Stack.Iit was one apiece at half time. Jim London put St John's Yard ahead but they could not hold on.Ticehurst equalised with five minutes to go with a goal from Dom Wigram. A frantic last few minutes ensued but neitehr side coudl get that vital third goal. Jack Greener refereed the game well.

Crowborough Town retain top spot on goal difference after a good 2-0 win at Green Street Blues. Report from Pat Noble (Crowborough Town) -

This was the hard fought and entertaining battle that would be expected from a top-of-the-table clash. For the third week successive week Crowborough were quick off the mark and should have been two goals ahead within five minutes of the start. But this week the home team's defence denied them despite a corner, a free kick and a header inside the box.

In a competitive game, with chances for both teams, it was eventually the visitors who opened the scoring with a Shane Kember goal and this was quickly followed by their second from Darren Nicol. Half Time : Green Street Blues  0  -  2  Crowborough Town

Despite making every effort, Green Street Blues could not overcome the pace and agility of the younger Town players - and an excellent clean sheet by 'keeper Ryan Hunt - and the visitors went on to take all three points,

Tonbridge Invicta are also 100% after two games. They went to Goldsmith's and baet Bricklayer's Arms 2-0, scorers being Ashleigh Craft and Cuan Walsh. Sam Collard kept the clean sheet.

Division Four

Tunbridge Wells Ridgeway came out 3-2 winners after a close encounter with Hadlow United. A hard and often bobbly pitch at Skinner's School was not conducive to flowing football, but the home side showed more threat in front of goal and ran out deserved winners in the end.

A game of two halves, with Ridgeway well on top in the first despite going a goal down to a headed goal from Hadlow's Scott Latham. Ridgeway then made their dominance count with two quick goals in reply towards the end of the half, scored by Harry Garside and Dan Kommu.

Hadlow probably had the better of the game in the second half, but conceded a third on the break, Marcus Harding the home side's scorer. Darren Prickett scored a bullet header for Hadlow at the back post to set up a nervy finish for Ridgeway,  but the youngsters managed to hold on.

FC Hayward's prolific scorer Dave Fowler was on form when they met Tonbridge United, hitting four of side's seven unanswered goals. The others came from Dylan Thomas (2) and Jay Skilton. Ash Cook had the clean sheet.

AFC Six in One picked up their first win of the season, beating Goudhurst United Reserves 5-2. Their scorers were Carl Chivers, Ryan Smith (2),Ben Boodle and Ross Bilyard. Andy and Luke Young each scored for the home side.

The other two games in the division were drawn. Insulators Reserves and FC Grinstead shared four goals at the Memorial Ground. Insulators scorers were an own goal and Marc Scott, for FC Grinstead Connor Tobin and Mick Neatherway. In the Tonbridge local derby, Origin Reserves and Casuals drew one-all at Tonbridge Farm. Matt Anderson scored for Origin, Alex Hill for Casuals.

It should be an interesting game next Sunday when AFC Six in One and FC Hayward meet, a marker for top spot perhaps?
