West Kent Sunday League News Report Sunday 10th December 2017

A wet and icy blast of weather took its toll of the WKSL fixture list. Only four games were played. But in those four , a total of 37 goals were scored!

WKSFL Senior Cup - Group 1

The only game to survive was Simla's visit to Langton Green. The Green were probably wishing it hadn't.

The pitch had a bit of surface water but the referee decided it could be played.

Langton Green started with 11 players but their 'stand in' keeper soon came off after dislocating or fracturing a finger. Then they lost another player to a head injury. All the play was in the Langton Green half of the pitch and Simla finished the first half 4  -  0 up.

After a quick turn around, the second half continued much the same with Simla scoring another 12 goals. This could have been a bigger scoreline, but for the valiant effort of the Langton's third choice keeper who pulled off some excellent saves. Simla officials would like to compliment Langton Green on their attitude, never giving up till the final whistle.

Scorers for Simla: Bayley Colbran 4, Joe Fuller 3, David Blundell 2 (including 1 penalty), Ian Parsons 2, Matt Coleman 1, Clayton Cooper 1, John Sinclair 1 and 2 own goals from Langton Green.  Joe Cullip was the clean sheet Keeper

Paddock Wood still have three games to play and should they win two of them, they have a fair chance to qualify. Two of those games are however against  Artois United and Simla. Those games are yet to be scheduled. Other results in Groups 2 and 3 will of course have a say.

Group 1 Senior Cup as it stands

Division One

Armada made it eight games since their last defeat with a 1-0 win at Insulators. The top four are nicely grouped for an interesting situation as the league unfolds.

Report from Insulators, who are enduring a poor season by recent standards. 'Sometimes football can be cruel, but without doubt the old adage that you need to score when on top applied in this game. Insulators were the better side for much of the first half, but fine keeping by Armada keeper James Larkin, good defending and a few missed opportunities meant the half time score was 0-0. In the second half Insulators continued to play well, although both 'keepers were called into regular action. As the wind strengthened, Armada gained a little more influence but the home side were still impressive. As often happens it was Armada who scored. Ben Renshaw claimed the points for Armada in the 90th minute, with a header following a free kick. A good, competitive match, but Insulators can consider themselves very unlucky.'

Division Two

Brenchley are now top of the Division. Tonbridge Invicta could not raise a team for their visit. This is the third time this season that Brenchley have been awarded points following opponents failing to fulfil fixtures. All of them would have been home games. They have 'played' more games than the two behind them, but have yet to meet either.

Division Three

Two games went ahead, twenty goals were scored.

St John's Yard move above Tonbridge Casuals to the top of the table after an emphatic 10-0 home win over  bottom side East Grinstead Mavericks. They also have a huge goal difference advantage over the teams behind them, but have played more games.

The Yard started with the wind in the favour. They began the scoring after seven minutes and kept it going at regular intervals until it was 7-0 at half time. Mavericks played much better in the second half, with the wind now at their backs, limiting Yard to just three more. Scorers : Reese Horseman, Matthew Humphrey, Dan Hunter (2), Mushed Miah (2), Lewis Stack, Sam Tanner and Rory Wilson (2). Adam Good in goal kept the clean sheet, their first in the thirteen WKSFL League and Cup matches they have played and despite having lost only three of them.

TW Ridgewaye lost the chance to climb to third place,  being held at home 5-5 by Paddock Wood Reserves. A hat-trick by Lewis Inglis and two from Harry Demmon accounted for their five. I do not have the Paddock Wood scorers.
