West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 25th September 2016

Kent Sunday Cups - First Round - Sunday Premier Cup

Only Simla of the three WKSFL clubs went through the second round and that only because Tunbridge Wells Foresters could not raise a team. Artois United had the closest call, their match at Aylesford ended 2-2 after extra time. George Rogers and Josh Marshall had scored for Artois before it went to the shoot-out. No joy at all for United as the penalties went the way of Aylesford by the convincing margin of 3-1

Armada were convincingly beaten 5-0 at home by AFC Locomotive, who top the Ashford League, so no disgrace there.

Simla will face East Malling United in the Second Round on 16th October, when Tonbridge Origin and Insulators will join in, both having received byes from the First Round.

Sunday Junior Trophy

The all WKSFL tie between TW Ridgewaye and Rusthall Club Athletic went the way of the more experienced Club side. Ridgewaye gave them a good game, with new centre forward Matt Harman scoring twice. But the deadly goal-scoring boots of Adam Saunders, often among the League's leading scorers, did the damage with a hat-trick to which were added goals by two other familiar names, Dave Waters and Ryan Dilnot. Rusthall Club will travel over to Coxheath and Farleigh of the Maidstone League for their Second Round tie.

A hard fought encounter resulted in the 3rd Division side Rusthall taking the spoils against a far younger fourth Division Ridgewaye. Experience told as Rusthall used their physical presence to take the lead after half an hour. A second quickly followed, both were superb individual goals from Adam Saunders. A goal from Harman reduced the deficit and good saves from Josh Wapshott kept the score close until a last minute strike from Rusthall sent them in at half time 3-1 ahead. Two more goals from Rusthall effectively sealed the tie, but Ridgewaye fought back well for Matt Harman to get his second and the final goal of the game. Final score Ridgewaye 2 Rusthall Club Athletic 5.

Tonbridge United travelled to Ashford to meet Burton Grove and came back empty handed after a 6-0 defeat. Speldhurst Rangers were unable to raise a team to fulfill their tie.

Hadlow United will be the League's only other representative in the Second Round. They had a bye.

Four WKSFL teams will feature in the Second Round of the Kent Sunday Junior Cup, also on 16th October. All drew the short straw and will be travelling.

Aldington  -v-  Gardeners Arms; Snodland Town Sunday  -v-  S.E. Spitfires;  Weavering A  -v-  Rusthall Rangers and  Cranbrook Town  -v-  Hawkenbury Sunday are the games in question.

Division One

With Simla scheduled to be on cup duty, both Insulators and Tonbridge Origin had the opportunity to catch them on points. And so they both did, giving us three teams at the top all on maximum points after three games.

Tonbridge Origin had the better of the two results, a 4-1 win at home against Rusthall Rangers. Myles Lowden scored twice for Origin, Mike Jessop and Rob Harman also found the goal. Rangers scorer unknown at the time of writing.

Insulators and Dormansland Rockets shared nine goals over at Dormansland, Insulators scored five them to emerge odd-goal winners.

Dormansland took an early lead but Tom Bridger with his first goal for the club and Andy Tarling with two put Insulators3-1 up at half time. After the break Tarling completed his hat-trick (his second in two weeks) to make the score 4-1, Dormansland then scored the penalty by Waghorn to make it 4-2. Shane Blackman scored to make it 5-2 then Rockets rallied and scored two goals late on to make the score 5-4.

For Rockets, the goals were scored by Andy Smith (2), Kieron Curist and the penalty by Waghorn.

Club Secretary Andrew Stanley said he cannot recall, in all his years, a day when both Insulators teams won 5-4 away from home.

Division Two

Gardener's Arms maintained their lead with a 4-0 win at home against Hawkenbury Sunday but the teams chasing them all have games in hand. With cup ties taking priority for most teams over the next three weeks, there won't be much change in this Division unless Pembury Sunday win the two games they have coming up.

Gardener's victory featured another two goals from Karl Smith, Lee Cooper and Jack Moore also scored while Ben carter kept his second clean sheet of the season.

Match of the day was at Ashurst, where Langton Green smashed Brenchley by the fairly incredible score of 14-1. Green must have been wanting a home win after starting the season with two away defeats, but probably didn't expect this. Jon Donoghue's personal tally was eight of them, Matt Parsons scored three, Adam Radford two and Richard Marsh one. Somehow among the mayhem Dave Hartfield scored for Brenchley.

Pembury Sunday's top scorer Steve Harper was instrumental in their 6-1 home win against SE Spitfires. His hat-trick paved the way for his side's first league win of the season. The other goals were scored by Mak Wyles, Marc Chappell and Yacine Marouani. Spitfirfres scorer unknown.

Cassidy's Phoenix suffered their second 3-2 defeat in as many matches, going down by that score at home to Green Lane. A pair from Josh harris and an own goal gave Lane the points. Cassidy's scorers were Matt Ferris and Vicente Terenti.

Hadlow Hornets were unable to raise a team for their game against Blackham and Ashurst. this and other unplayed games in this Division will be discussed at the Management Committee meeting on Tuesday. Points may be awarded, the table will be updated later in the week if that is the case.

Division Three

Crowborough Town continue to carry all before them, maintaining their 100% record with a 5-0 win at Goldsmith's over St John's Yard.

For the third week in four Town started superbly and two goals in the first five minutes put them in control. The first came from Matt Pickett and this was quickly followed by the second from Darren Nicol Just five minutes later it could have been three when a Matt Pickett cross found the head of Darren Nicol, but he just failed to find the target. The visitors were finding it hard to cope with the pace of the Town forwards and a number of chances went begging until a through ball from Ben Warlow reached Frankie Pooley and he made in three. It was not all in one half and the visitors made Crowborough's keeper Ryan Hunt pull off an excellent save just before half time to keep the score at 3 - 0

The second half found St John' Yard trying hard to get back into the game, but Towns good football kept them in control. After  ten minutes a Leon Fisher free kick found Darren Nicol. His shot was well saved by the visiting keeper, only for the rebound to fall to Steve Palmer who tucked the ball into the net. An off the ball incident saw a player from each side substituted. St Johns settled down to play some good football but without success in front of goal. With fifteen minutes to go a good passing move between Calvin Camilleri and Jordan Vinall saw Chris (Biffa) Martin take the final pass to put Matt Pickett through to score his second of the game.

Not the best performance by Town this season, but the visitors had made it difficult and at the final whistle the clean sheet by Ryan Hunt and a 5 - 0 result kept the unbeaten record intact.

Tonbridge Invicta, in second place, came up short against Paddock Wood Reserves. Paul Smith scored the only goal of the game for the Wood in a 1-0 win and Adam Good the ´keeper kept his sheet clean.

Invicta meet Town next Sunday which could already be called a six-pointer.

Green Street Blues are gaining ground after a comprehensive 7-1 win at home to Ticehurst Village Club. There were six different goalscorers, with Chris Harrigan getting two. Jon Sims, Neil Brooks, Tom Wilken, Ash Birchruffel and James Phillips were the names that went to make up the final tally. Rob Brilety scored the consolation goal for the visitors.

Division Four

Referee Tony Gambardella had a busy morning at the Cadogan. He awarded four penalties (at least!), two to either side, as TW Foresters Reserves maintained their 100% record by winning 5-2 against Tonbridge Origin Reserves. Ashley Collins scored both their penalties, Taylor Galvin (down from the first team) also scored, as did Jeff Harrison and Jay Donaghue. Origin's two penalties were scored by Alex Williamson and Steve Whitear.

Division leaders FC Hayward upheld their 100% record but only just, squeaking past Goudhurst United Reserves 2-1. FC Hayward scorers were Dave Fowler and Zak Pollard, Michael Peevor scored for United.

The Division's leading scorers FC Grinstead beat bottom club Hadlow United 7-3 thanks to Connor Tobin's third hat-trick of the season.  His team-mate Charly Harris also scored three, Joe Moulding netted the seventh. United's goals were marked by Jimmy Ashby, Nick Foad and Daren Pickett.

AFC Six in One and Insulators Reserves had a nine goal game at Tonbridge Farm which Insulators shaded 5-4.

Not the prettiest game, but Insulators got off to a flying start by going two up in the first 15 minutes.  They then had a small implosion, which included everything but actually trying to score in their own goal which saw Six in One  deservedly lead at half time

A few harsh words saw Insulators improve after the break and run out deserved winners with the deciding goal coming from the penalty spot.  Carl Worden scored the first penalty for the reserves in the last seven attempts, so that’s a useful hoodoo to break. The otehr scorers were Kieron Pattenden, Lewis Ott, Marc Scott and Ben Manser.

Promotion hopefuls TW Foresters come to the Memorial Ground Paddock wood next week which should be a good measure of where each team will finish this year
