West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 23rd October 2016
The Management Committee announced on Monday afternoon decisions concerning
unfulfilled fixtures in Divisions One, Three and Four. The league tables
have been adjusted accordingly from those published on Monday morning.
If I am right, we have to go back to season 2009 - 2010 since Simla last
lost a league match by a margin of four goals. On Sunday they suffered
their heaviest defeat for a long time, losing 5-1 at Artois United.
That win propels Artois to a clear lead at the top of the table. They
have been awarded three points in respect of an unplayed fixture in
September, this is reflected in the amended table below. Simla meanwhile
are in the unaccustomed position of being sixth. Artois' Stafford Brown
scored a hat-trick, Peter Shaw the other two. Simla's sole reply came
from Steve Smith.
Tonbridge Origin are pushing hard in second place but has their work cut out at Dormansland,
where the Rockets put up a hard fight before eventually going down 3-5.
There was another hat-trick in this game, from Origin's Myles Lowden.
Chris Gregory and Ant Kent each scored one to make up the five. For
Rockets, Freddie Webb scored twice and Ross Waghorn converted a
penalty.
A win for Insulators would have kept them level pegging with the two leaders, but they went down 2-1 at TW Foresters.
Insulators led at the break through Andy Tarling in a game that was
evenly matched. Insulators were unable to get into the game as much in
the second half and succumbed to lose for the first time this season.
Taylor Galvin and Ryan Sands scored for Foresters, a win that keeps them
on the fringe of the top group.
Blackham & Ashurst jumped four places up the table after a narrow 4-3 win at home to Goudhurst United.
Will Wood, DJ Lacon and two from Anthony Clark were the all-important
goals. Will Mantle scored twice for United, Michael Peevor hit the
third.
There's a very important game coming up next Sunday when Tonbridge Origin host Artois United at Tonbridge Farm.
Some might be wondering why the top goalscorers in Division One don't have the
high numbers of those in lower divisions. When you consider that Simla
have recorded eleven different scorers and Tonbridge Origin ten
including Mr OG, it's just that the goals for most teams are being
shared around.

Division Two
Pembury Sunday stay in top spot on goal difference, having beating Green Lane
4-0. Steve Harper's hat-trick was the cornerstone of their win. Dave
Chappell scored the other. Charlton Farrell kept his third clean sheet
in as many weeks. Pembury's form is certainly on the up, having scored
eleven and conceded none in their last three games!
Gardener's Arms went to Paddock Wood
probably expecting a closer game than the 6-0 win it turned out to be.
Yet another three goal haul in this one, from Gardner's Kane Joseph. Jon
Loveday, Lee Cooper and Aaron Austin also scored, while Ben Carter kept
his fourth clean sheet of the season to remain top of that little
table. Gardener's have conceded only one goal in their past five WKSFL
league and cup matches.
Langton Green grabbed a useful point in a 2-2 draw at home to Hawkenbury Sunday. The prolific Jon Donoghue scored them both. Hawks goals were marked by Russ Anderson and Ashley Bell.
Cassidy's Phoenix continue to creep up the table, notching their third win in three games by winning 2-0 at home to Brenchley. Tom Platts and Matt Ferris scored while Tom Joyner in goal kept their first clean sheet of the season.
Hadlow Hornets were unable to field a team for their game with SE Spitfires. The Management Committee has awarded the three points to Spitfires, the table below reflects that decision.

Division Three
Division Three is shaping up to be a close contest. Leaders Tonbridge Invicta were without a game, but second placed Crowborough Town
were unable to take advantage. With the regular Crowborough Town
manager away, the assistant manager stepped in and must have wondered
what he'd done to deserve this weeks player situation. They travelled to
Rusthall Club Athletic.
Town had four regulars out injured and another six regulars who were
committed elsewhere for the day and there aren't many (if any) clubs
that could cover TEN regular players being unavailable. The 'manager for
the day' juggled his resources and for the first 45 minutes the game
was fairly even with Rusthall grabbing a well taken goal and Crowborough
failing to find the net thanks on a number occasions to their opponents
keeper who was in sparkling form.
Half Time : Rusthall Club Athletic 1 - 0 Crowborough Town
With the home team´s first keeper having to leave the game with an
injury, Crowborough's forwards must have thought that it was 'an ill
wind', and their luck would change. It was not to be and a second
Rusthall goal changed the game. The visitors no longer playing with any
conviction and the home team playing with growing confidence. Thanks to
an inspired performance by Ryan Hunt, Crowborough's keeper, the score
was kept at a reasonable level but Rusthall wanted it more and fully
deserved their victory, which was their first in the league this season.
Rusthall Club scorers were Jamie law (2), Ryan Dilnot and Carl Wilson.
In goal, the job share by Club has messed up my nice statistics, with
Michael Dimirilis and Josh Fermor being credited with half a goal-less game each.
A nine goal thriller at Goldsmith's meanwhile saw Bricklayer's Arms beaten 5-4 by visitors Green Street Blues,
who go up to third as a result. Blues have unearthed a goal-scoring
talent it seems. A new name on the scoresheets this season, Callum Heath
scored all five of Blues goals. For the Bricks, Craig Bishop and Liam
Flint each scored twice.
No luck for bottom side Speldhurst Rangers in their game with St John's Yard.
They can score goals, one each this week from Barney Mellors and and
unstoppable shot from Dan Kelly had given them a 2-0 half time lead at
the rec. But the second half went the visitors way. Jack Veness scored
from the penalty spot, Dan Hunter equalised for the Yard and Veness was
on on hand for his second to seal the points. St John's Yard are now up
to 5th place.
Paddock Wood Reserves are also in the frame. They had a very useful 3-0 win at Ticehurst Village Club with goals from Callum Lawlor, Paul Smith and James Roxborough. Adam Good had his second shut-out of the season.

Division Four
Tunbridge Wells Foresters Reserves crushed Tonbridge Casuals
8-0 on the Hayesbrook synthetic pitch. They go to the top of the table
on goal difference, but next Sunday must visit FC Hayward, lurking in
second place with a game in hand having been awarded three points in
respect of an unplayed game on the 16th.
Foresters deluge of goals consisted of a hat-trick by Dean Squires, two
each from Mark Inglis and Bill Armstrong and one from Harry Hickmott.
Bradley Collins was the successful 'keeper to have his name added to the
clean sheets list.
The ridiculous number of goals scored in games involving AFC Six in One shows no sign of abating. There were nine this time in their local derby with Tonbridge Origin Reserves, with Six in One
coming out on top having scored six of the them. There were two goals
from Ryan Smith, who with 17 goals to his name this season is now the
league's leading goalscorer in all Divisions. Also scoring twice was
Dave Cherry. Ben Boodle and Ross Billyard chipped in with one each. For
Origin's reserves Alex Williamson scored twice and Matt Anderson once.
TW Ridgewaye fell to their
fourth successive defeat but it was a much better result than the
previous two weeks. A much improved performance from Ridgewaye saw them
go down 3-1 to Insulators in a spirited game that was a lot closer than
the score line suggests. Insulators took a 1-0 lead when Ridgewaye’s
keeper, Josh Snapshot, failed to deal with an innocuous through ball.
Debutant Ben Johnson scored for the visitors. This was cancelled out
when Marcus Harding made it 1-1 with a cool finish and the same player
could have had two more to his name before Insulators made it 2-1 just
before the break, Johnson again the scorer
Ridgewaye kept their composure and pressed for an equaliser before
Insulators went further ahead with a good finish by Johnson to complete
his hat-trick for a 3-1 lead. Somehow a blistering shot from Ridgewaye's
Matt Wicks stayed out of the net after hitting the bar and post, which
would have set up a thrilling finale and Insulators held on for the win.
Finally, down at the bottom, Hadlow United secured their first league win of the season over Tonbridge United by the narrow margin of 2-1. Both goals were scored by Jimmy Smith. Tonbridge United's reply was from Reece Dangerfield.
