West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 23rd April 2017

There were only four matches played as the League programme came to end. The climax to the season comes next week with the three Cup Finals.

WKSFL Spring Cup Senior Semi Final

Simla reached the Spring Cup (senior) final with their third big win in just over  a week. This time it was   a 5-0 triumph over Gardener's Arms,

Simla had a good start with a goal within the first three minutes when James MacGregor scored from an Ian Parsons corner. Steve Smith scored twice before Ian Parsons scored direct from a corner.  It was 4  -  0 at half time.

Steve Smith completed his hat trick within a couple of minutes of the start of the second half and that's how it ended with a 5 - 0 win for Simla. Michael Czanner kept the clean sheet in goal.

The second semi-final, between Brenchley and Artois United, taks place next Sunday.

WKSFL Spring Cup Junior Semi Finals

St John's Yard made it to the final by defeating Crowborough Town by a 5-2 margin.  Having lost 5-0 and 7-0 to them in the Laague, the Yard have gained some degree of revenge.

They went into the lead in seven half minutes though Mushed Miah.  St John's Yard completely outplayed the visitors but, thanks to a number of missed chances it was not until twenty minutes later that they went 2 - 0 ahead. Miah scored two more with Jack Veness scoring two penalties. From the kick-off there was ever only one team that looked like winning this semi-final. There were no excuses of missing players, illness or hang-overs. Crowborough Town just could not play football.

Half time score 4 -0 after an excellent performance from the home team

With the Crowborough players more intent on arguing amongst themselves they never looked like getting back into the game. If they stopped arguing with each other it was only to show 'verbal dissent' with the Referee, sufficient to receive FOUR yellow cards and ONE red card. More cards than the club usually receives in a whole season and the first red card since 2008 - or maybe even before that.

With the game (thankfully from the management's point of view!) drawing to a close, Town managed to score two goals, from top goalscorer Matt PIickett and one from Andy Pollard, whilst the home team added one to their score.

Other other game, Green Street Blues v TW Foresters Reserves, was called off because of a problem with inadequare pitch markings. It will be played on a date to be advised.

Division One

The final game of the season was a 'dead rubber' between Dormansland Rockets and Armada, which was played out as a 2-2 draw. Andy Smith and Jake Dodgson were the Rockets scorers, I do not have the Armada scorers. Rockets now have a couple of weeks to gather themselves for their Surrey Sunday Lower Junior Cup final on May 10th.

Division Two

Likewise in Division Three, the final fixture between Green Lane and Pembury Sunday was just for pride, with the Lane already being assured of third place and Pembury of second. The outcome was a 5-1 win for Green Lane, scorers being Matt Brown, Kieren Norman, Tom Welch and two from James Donaldson. Pembury scorer is unknown.

The top two will meet again in next Sunday's WKSFL Intermediate Cup Final. Their league games were a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 win for Gardener's Arms, so form suggets a close game despite their reverses on Sunday.
