West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 16th October 2016 - Div Three details updated 18th October

Kent Sunday Cups - Second Round

Overall, not a good day for the WKSFL in the Kent County Cups. Only three of the nine teams won, five lost and one did not turn out.

In the Premier Cup, Tonbridge Origin had a sound 4-2 win at home to K Sports Sunday FC from Aylesford. Myles Lowden scored twice, assisted by Chris Gregory and Rob Littlejohn.

They will be joined in the third round draw by Insulators, who travelled a long way and came back pleased after a good 3-0 win. Insulators travelled to Ashford with a small squad (but perfectly formed!). Mersham looked dangerous playing, an early ball to their forwards. A combination of poor finishing and good keeping by Max Bridges kept the score at 0-0. Then Martin Page-Mitchell broke through to score with a fine shot for a 1-0 lead for Insulators after 30 minutes. Four minutes later and own goal made it 2-0. The next goal would be crucial. A clearance off the line by Insulators was immediately followed by a break-away with Page-Mitchell making it 3-0 in the 50th minute. Further excellent saves by Bridges kept the home side out for an excellent away win.

Not such good news for Simla, who went down 2-0 at East Malling. It was a good hard fought match with both teams having chances in the first half, which ended scoreless. East Malling went one up in the second half then Simla had chances again to score, but their shots were wide or straight to the keeper. East Malling scored again, Simla pushed hard to score without success. East Malling deservedly won this match.

All four WKSFL teams were drawn to be away from home in the Junior Cup and only Gardener's Arms came back smiling. They made the long trip to Aldington near Ashford where they won a close game 2-1 Andrew Grundy scored from the penalty spot, Lee Cooper the second.

South East Spitfires lost narrowly at Snodland Town, Sean Ludlam's goal wasn't enough as their hosts scored twice.

Rusthall Rangers and Hawkenbury Sunday also travelled. Both came back without scoring. Rangers lost 1-0 at Weavering, while former league members Cranbrook Town beat Hawkenbury 3-0.

In the Junior Trophy, Hadlow United lost 2-0 at home to New Ash Green, Rusthall Club Athletic withdrew from their fixture with Coxheath and Farleigh.

Division One

Artois Unted's 5-1 win at home to Blackham & Ashurst leapfrogged them over their rivals, engaged in cup business, to top the league albeit only on goal difference and having played a game more. Ethan Laughton-Zimmerman's hat-trick lead the way, with the other goals coming from Connor Morrow and Luke Stratton. Blackham's only goal was scored by Will Wood.

Armada secured their first league win of the season, 2-0 at home against Dormansland Rockets. Both goals were scored by Keith McCormack.

Tunbridge Wells Foresters moved up the table after a 4-2 win away at Goudhurst United.  Richard Clibbens scored twice and there were also goals from Steve Johnson and Ronnie Pugh. For the home side, Will Mantle and Josh Cleaver found the back of the net.

Division Two

Pembury Sunday stole a march on Paddock Wood, winning the top of the table clash at the Elm Treet by a convincing 3-0 margin. Steve Harper scored all three, his total for the season so far now stands at nine. Charlton Farrell was the clean sheet goalkeeper. It was Paddock Wood's first league defeat of the season and came on the back of a Senior Cup defeat by Langton Green the previous Sunday.

Langton Green are still having little joy in the League however. Cassidy's Phoenix beat them 3-1 at Bayham, featuring goals by Ryan Ennis, Mike Culverhouse and Ollie Muggeridge. Dominic Hanley replied.

Tom Lowe's second hat-trick in two matches gave Brenchley a boost. They have rallied after a poor start to the season. The 5-1 win at home against Hadlow Hornets also had goals from Steve Marsh and Dave Hartfield. Brandon Riddall scored Hornets's consolation goal.

Division Three - updated 18th October

Crowborough Town's early season is in danger of becoming slightly unravelled. Recent defeats in the League against their two closest rivals have seen then slip down the table. On Sunday they lost heavily in the Crowborough derby, Bricklayer's Arms coming out 5-1 winners at Goldsmith's. Leading scorer Matt Pickett put them ahead after five minutes, but Bricklayer's Arms came on stronger. Harry Sansbury scored two, Craig Bishop, Tommy Mulcahy and Liam Flint the others.

Tonbridge Invicta now head the Division Three table after a 6-3 win at St John's Yard. Adam James of Invicta was another hat-trick man on Sunday, his three were added to by Sam Wyles, Rob Runciman and Sam Wing. For the Yard, Dan Hunter, Chris Newhouse and Lewis Stack have their names on the scoresheet.

Green Street Blues and Paddock Wood Reserves drew 1-1, Blues scorer was James Philips, for Wood it was Grant Allen.

Ticehurst Village Club won for the second week in a row. A high scoring game at Speldhurst Rangers ended with a 5-3 win for the Club, with two goals from Ben Banfield and one each from Josh Macnab and Ricky Angel. A game in which poor finishing once again cost Speldhurst dearly. It was a game they could have comfortably won which they lost contributing two own goals - only one say Ticehurst! Ranger's scorers were Fred Roberts, James Hughes and Sam Stevens.

Division Four

Goals and hat-tricks galore in Division Four! AFC Six In One's match didn't quite manage to keep up the previous average of 8.167 goals per game. but there were though eight goals at Tonbridge Farm in their encounter with Tonbridge Casuals, shared equally in a 4-4 draw. Two for Ryan Smith (his total for the season thus far is 15), one each for Ben Boodle and Dave Cherry marked the Six in One card, for Casuals a three goal haul went to Paul Edwards while Joe Lewis scored the fourth. Casuals are draw specialists of the League, having drawn four of their five League matches.

There was also a 4-4 draw between Insulators Reserves and Tonbridge Origin Reserves.  Insulators probably regretted the loss of two points the most as they have lost a little ground on those above them.  Insulators feel like they threw this game away but  give full credit to Tonbridge Origin. Insulators led at the break with goals from Marc Scott and Jamie Skocic and then took a 4 -1 lead with goals from Ryan Hesmer and Reece Beecroft. The last twenty minutes proved far too much for the home side, as Origin knocked in three goals for a well-earned point. More training required for the home side???.  Another of the day's many hat-tricks went to Alex Williamson of Origin Reserves, his team's fourth was scored by Wayne Page.

Tonbridge United finally have points on the board after an emphatic 6-2 home win against Goudhurst United Reserves. And there was a hat-trick here also, this one being hit by the home side's Reece Dangerfield. Benji Dadzie scored twice and Michael Dunn's goal made it six. For Goudhurst, the goals came from Ben Young and Ricky Norman.

Top goal scoring feat of the day award (if there was one) would go to Harry Hickmott of TW Foresters Reserves, who scored five in their 9-0 demolition of the young men of TW Ridgewaye.  Dean Squires scored twice and added to the total were single goals each from Mark Inglis and Jefff Harrison.

FC Grinstead were unable to fulfill their fixture with FC Hayward. The Management Committee wil decide upon the award of points etc in due course.
