West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 9th April 2017
There were no league games played today, the focus was on the various cup competitions.
WKSFL Senior Cup
Tonbridge Origin will meet Simla in the WKSFL Senior Cup Final after
beating Dormansland Rockets in the re-arranged semi-final.
Division One's leading scorer Myles Lowden scored twice, Alan Page the
third. In goal, Sam Jenner kept the clean sheet which was his and his
club's first since the opening day of the season!
WKSFL Intermediate Cup
The two semi finals took place and both went to form. Gardener's Arms,
Division two winners, brushed aside Rusthall Club Athletic by a
convincing 4-1 score. Karl Smith, restored to his normal outfield
position after a couple of games in goal, scored two, Leo Hall and Kane
Joseph the others. Dave Waters scored the Club's only goal.
In the other game, Pembury Sunday beat Green Lane 2-1, their goals being
scored by Yacine Marouani and Matt Rice - Tucker. The Lane's reply
was through Matt Brown.
WKSFL Spring Cup - Senior Section
Brenchley qualify for the semi-finals as winners of group 3. Mike
Williams, Martin Aso and top scorer Tom Lowe scored the important goals
in the 3-1 win at Cassidy's Phoenix. Alex Kibbey scored for the hosts.

Simla will face Green Lane on Thursday evening, both knowing that a win
will put them clear top of the group. Goudhurst United have pulled
out of their final game against Green Lane that was due to be played next Sunday. If, as expected, Green Lane
will be awarded the three points, that would place them on nine points
although with no possibility of improving their goal difference. Of
course, should they beat Simla or draw with them on Thursday and get those three points,
they would finish as group winners regardless of the result in the Simla
v Armada game.
Simla took a step forwards with a 4-1 win at Goudhurst United.
Simla struggled to get a team out. They only had 10 men to start the
match. Both Simla keepers were unavailable for the match but West Kent
legend Alan Rogers stepped up for one more performance just a few days
before his 70th birthday.
It didn't start too well when Goudhurst were awarded a free kick just
outside the penalty area within the first couple of minutes of the start
of the match. An excellent kick from Michael Peevor went in close to
the post which Rogers couldn't quite reach. But the rest of the match
was comfortable for him, with a few saves and catches involved.
Simla equalised with a header from Matt Newman before half time.
The second half saw Simla pull away with three more goals, one each for Richard Cole, Matt Newman and Matt Crompton.
The last words must be for Alan Rogers who has been involved with the
West Kent Sunday Football League for most of its existence -- who else
can claim to be still playing at nearly 70 years of age !!
There were no games in Group 1, all four teams are scheduled to play next Sunday which could decide things.

WKSFL Spring Cup - Junior Section
In Group 1, TW Foresters and Crowborough Town drew 1-1 thus ensuring both would
qualify for the semi-finals. After a first half full of incidents it was
Crowborough Town's Steve Palmer who opened the scoring on the stroke of
half time when he headed in a cross from the right.
The second half was no less volatile and with Foresters reduced to
ten men following a sending-off, Town had chances to add to their score
but couldn't find the net. Eventually a lapse in concentration in the
Crowborough defence allowed Foresters to steal the ball and grab an
equaliser, scored by Simon Hammond. Foresters Reserves qualify as best
runner-up across the three groups.
In Group 2, Paddock Wood Reserves and Tonbridge Origin Reserves creditably
played out their 'dead rubber' Neither team could qualify. Wood's
Reserves won the game by 3-2, scorers being Eric Sole Sampere, Russell
Breden and James Hall. Origin's goals were marked by Levi Caruana and
Jamie Edwards.
With Green Street Blues and St John's Yard already having made their way
to the semi finals, the line up looks like this, with the games scheduled
for 23rd April.
