West Kent Sunday League Report – Sunday 2nd October 2016
Last Sunday and next will be dominated by the first rounds of the three WKSFL cup competitions.
WKSFL Senior Cup
Four first round ties took place, with no real surprises except perhaps at the all Division Two game between Langton Green and Paddock Wood.
Paddock Wood had beaten Langton Green 4-1 in a league game on the
opening day of the season and have won everything since. But Jon
Donoghue's scoring boots found the net twice in a 2-1 win for the Green.
Scott McGuire replied for Paddock Wood. Langton Green's 'reward' is a testing
trip to top side Simla in Round Two.
Simla followed the form book with a comprehensive 7-1 win at Division two Pembury Sunday.
A solitary goal for Pembury by Yacine Marouani did not stop stop the
flood coming the other way. The League's leading goal-scorer Dave
Blundell added another hat-trick to his tally, which is now thirteen for
the season already. Also scoring for Simla were Ian Parsons, Alex Carey,
Luke Leppard and Ben Johnson.
Blackham and Ashurst put aside their poor league form to whip TW Foresters by 4-0 at Goldsmith's. Two goals
from Jake Miller, one each from Ben Freeman and Dan Warburton made up
the four, while Matt Wood kept his side's first clean sheet of the
season.
Gardener's Arms took Tonbridge Origin
to extra time in a closely fought derby. After extra time the score was
1-1, Kane Joseph having scored for Gardener's and Rob Littlejohn for
Origin. But the penalties went decisively in the favour of Origin
by a margin of 4-2.
The remaining first round tie between SE Spitfires and Goudhurst United will take place next Sunday.

WKSFL Junior Cup
Three of the four first round ties were played. Pride of place goes to FC Grinstead, who travelled to Hayesbrook School and the synthetic pitch to go home with an 8-1 win under their belts. Their hosts, Tonbridge Casuals,
could muster only a solitary goal by veteran Mark Whorlow. For
Grinstead, Charly Harris scored his second hat-trick in as many weeks,
Mick Neatherway scored twice and there was one each for Callum Gardner, Cameron Elliott and Connor Tobin.
With Tonbridge Origin Reserves and Hadlow United
having together conceded 29 goals so far this season in League matches,
a big score might have been expected but it was not to be. Origin
Reserves scraped home by the narrowest of margins, a 1-0 win with Matt
Anderson being the hero of the day. Credit to goes to Bradley Watson, who
kept his sides's first clean sheet of the season so far.
In contrast, the match between Third Division Green Street Blues and FC Hayward,
flying high at the top of Division Four, produced eight goals. Five of
them were scored by FC Hayward and in particular the very familiar name
of Dave Fowler, who scored three of them. A penalty from Zak Pollard
and a first goal of the season for Dave Proudlock completed the visitors
scoring. Blues scorers were Sam Mack and two from Ash Birchruffell with the final score being 5-3 to FC Hayward.
The remaining first round match between Rusthall Club and Paddock Wood Reserves is yet to be scheduled.

Division One
The news that Simla have had
three points docked for fielding an ineligible player in their win over
Goudhurst United has changed the scenery somewhat in Division One.
With most teams involved in the Senior Cup, there were only two Division One games played.
Armada gained their first league point of the season, holding Artois United
to a 2-2 draw at Yew Tree Road. Keith McCormack and Marc Faulkner
scored for Armada, I do not have the scorers from Artois United.
In the other game, Dormansland Rockets put ten past Goudhurst United,
who had been given two weeks off by the League in order to recruit
players. Four goals from Rich Wetton, two from Paul Twinn and one each
from Andy Twinn and Dave Heaton plus two penalties, scored by Ross
Waghorn and Kieron Curtis boosted Rockets goal difference considerably.
Goudhurst's consolation goal was an effort by Luke Young.
Rusthall Rangers, struggling at the foot of the table, failed to raise a team to fulfill their fixture with Insulators.
Next Sunday Insulators play Tonbridge Origin, winners will go clear at
the top of the table pending a decision concerning the match above.

Division Two
Again, many teams were involved in cup matches, so there were only two matches. Hawkenbury Sunday gained a little ground near the top of the table after a 4-1 win at home to Hadlow Hornets.
Hornets are another team searching for players of a good standard.
Hawks scorers were Ash Bell, Tom Fanton, Michael Collins and Natt Paine;
Tom Coleman scored for Hornets.
Green Lane won for the second week running, this time at home to Brenchley. In a 3-1 win, Their goals were scored by Rob Montandon, Josh Harris and Matt Brown. Tom Lowe replied for Brenchley.

Division Three
The important top of the table clash between Tonbridge Invicta and Crowborough Town
went the way of Invicta. An excellent 5-2 win at Tonbridge Farm puts
Invicta level on points and only behind Crowborough Town on goal
difference.
This top of the table game was played in an excellent spirit - sadly
almost old fashioned when compared to some 'modern' Sunday morning
football.
It was apparent from the start that Invicta had a plan to reduce the
impact that Town's fast front runners have had in recent weeks, and how
well it worked. This put the pressure into midfield for both teams and
eventually the home team gained the upper hand to take the lead after
fifteen minutes. The visitors had their chances but just couldn't hit
the target and ten minutes later Invicta made it 2 - 0. Chances
continued to come at both ends but neither keeper was put to too much
trouble.
Half Time TONBRIDGE INVICTA 2 - 0 CROWBOROUGH TOWN
The very 'forthright' half time talk from the Crowborough manager for
once failed to have the desired effect and with Invicta playing the
better football it was no real surprise that within fifteen minutes of
the restart they were 4 - 0 ahead. A rather fortunate penalty award then
saw Matt Pickett reduce the arrears for Crowborough, but even this
couldn't help them back into their normal quick passing, free flowing,
style and once again the home team broke away to make it 5 - 1.
Maybe the warm sunny morning then got the better of some of the home
team or perhaps the warmth on the backs of the visiting players was what
was needed but at least - and rather belatedly - Town started to play
their usual football. Sadly it was all too late and an own goal was all
they had to show for this late pressure when a Tim Page corner was
palmed into his own net by the home team's keeper.
This was a keenly contested, but very fair game of football - but
perhaps not really enjoyed by the high flying Crowborough side who never
got going until the last ten minutes
Two Invicta goals came from Tommy Welham, with Cameron Dunbar, Ashleigh
Craft and Rob Runciman also making their mark. Town's Matt Pickett
remains Division Three's top goalscorer on nine.
There was a first win of the season for St John's Yard, a welcome relief no doubt! Paddock Wood Reserves
went into to the lead in about the 16th minute through Grant Allen.
Yard quickly pulled one back, Dan Hunter scoring but the lead didn't
last long as Alex Bristow made it 2-1 for the Wood. St John's Yard then
equalised with a minute to go in the first half, Josh Lincoln scoring.
Half time 2-2.
The game was looking a bit like being a stalemate. Then an inspirational
substitution by manager Sam Dewey took off St John's Yard
captain Matt Humphrey. This allowed a more free flowing second half. and
the scoring two more goals by Chris Newhouse and Rory Wilson and that
first win of the season.
Speldhurst Rangers were another team to break their duck. They did so with a 3.3 draw at home to Rusthall Club Athletic,
who also gained their first point of the season. Rangers' scorers were
James Hughes (2) and Fred Roberts; for the Club Jordan Brewer, Adam
Wickens and George Webzell.
Ticehurst Village Club are having no luck it seems. On Sunday they went down 2-1 at home to Bricklayer's Arms, Rob Briley being their scorer. I do not have the Brick's names.

Division Four
A narrow win for TW Foresters Reserves at Insulators Reserves pulled them up into second sport, behind leaders FC Hayward only on goal difference.
This was an entertaining end to end match in which maybe a draw would have been the fair result.
Insulators took an early lead from a Karl Worden penalty. This was soon
levelled with the away side converting their own penalty, scored by
Ashley Collins. There were plenty of cautions issued by referee
Brian Shelton in the first quarter, until players developed some self
control. Foresters took the lead with a goal from Jeff Harrison just
before the break and had had the better of the first half.
Insulators improved as the game went on and Alex Buxton equalised when
his mis-hit shot just found the net. The game continued end to end and
looked like ending a draw. Then when Foresters broke down the right an
early cross was met by Harry Hickmott for a well taken goal in the 84th
minute. Insulators hit the woodwork in search of an equaliser, but
couldn't quite find the net.
AFC Six in One recorded a 7-0 win in a derby with Tonbridge United.
Ryan Smith scored a hat-trick, bringing his total to ten for the
season. Also scoring were Ross Billyard (2), Ben Boodle and Jason
Carver. In goal, Kenny Draper kept the opposition at bay.
With the first team no doubt calling for players, Goudhurst United Reserves were unable to play their game against TW Ridgewaye.
